Interview with Globelynx Producer Oscar Rihll

Oscar Rihll - Globelynx Producer

What is your job role at Globelynx and what does a typical working day entail for you?
-I work as a producer at Globelynx, kicking my day off with our morning stories which inform broadcasters of our most important, relevant stories. We then request quotes from experts and record VODs for broadcasters, which are good fun to edit with Adobe.

How would you describe Globelynx in one sentence?
-Connects experts to broadcasters.

Tell us about your career journey, both at Globelynx and what led you to working for Globelynx today?
-I previously worked at the Manchester Evening News, studying for my NCTJ and working as a reporter and social media journalist. I wanted to move to London after 5 years in wonderful Manchester and wanted to develop my skills in video and producing further.

What’s been your most enjoyable moment working at Globelynx so far?
-Recording an interview with Billy Kenber from The Times on Mark Menzies ‘honeytrap scandal’ – this was breaking at the time and to interview the journalist who broke the story was challenging and exciting.

What’s been the biggest change in the news broadcast industry that you’ve noticed?
-The increasing need for quality and speed of VODs and interviews is both fun and stressful. Because creating video is so widespread and accessible, the need to make sure our content is of the best quality and created with a pretty rapid turnaround is always important.

How do you see the industry changing within the next five years?
-I hope that short-form content (TikTok and short-form videos) do not dominate the media world as apps and social media try to further decrease our attention spans. In my opinion, written news aided by video is irreplaceable and essential to reliable, honest media coverage.

Tell us a bit about yourself outside of work? What hobbies do you enjoy?
-I love to socialise with friends and family, cooking for dinner parties, finding a great London beer garden or a small pop-up serving good grub. I play the piano, enjoy reading and saving as much money as I can to travel. Supporting Man United is, of late, more of a chore than a pleasure but I have high hopes for the upcoming season…
